Keep Your Eyes on the Prize (A Post-Holiday Tip)

by | Nov 27, 2023

Don’t weigh yourself today….

Because if you’re like me, and you took some liberties with food and alcohol over the past five days, then you might find yourself up a couple/several pounds.

Don’t worry; it’s (mostly) water weight from more carbs, salt, treats, and booze.

Hopefully, you also had the opportunity to enjoy your time with family, be physically active, dust off the Xmas/Chanukah decorations, and unwind from what has felt like a frenetic last few months.

We took the family to Southern California to visit my in-laws and while I don’t love the drive, it’s always nice getting away…

But it’s a slippery slope with the holidays and food – as I’m sure you’re aware, so I make sure to have a few fundamental practices when we’re traveling that help me maintain some semblance of structure and control:

  • Workout daily. This is non-negotiable. There are two decent gyms within 10 min of us. I will happily pay a daily guest pass fee, but they usually let me in for free. I like to get up early and get a win in first thing – especially before it gets crowded.
  • Keep protein intake high. Protein keeps you full, which is important when there are a lot of snacky foods and treats lying around: cookies, cheeses, crackers, pretzels, etc. All of those calories add up quickly.
  • Walk, a lot, especially after meals. Movement is medicine, and daily walking, especially after meals, is one of the best things we can do to improve health, digestion, blood sugar management, energy, manage stress, and enjoy time together.
  • Go to bed early. I’m old and nothing productive happens after 9/10. So get to bed early so you can wake up energized and ready to be productive.

I’m sure there’s at least one of these practices that you could improve upon that would help you get through the rest of 2023 with some solid momentum, especially if you find yourself traveling.

Oh yeah, and if you did happen to weigh yourself and aren’t happy with the outcome, don’t worry; it will dissipate over the next few days as the water weight subsides.

But, If you’re still unhappy with the number on the scale and you know it’s time to make a change, then head over to https://bodysystems.com and we can schedule a time to discuss your goals and if/how we may be able to support you.
