We all need to start eating like athletes… at least that’s what I gleaned from this recent conversation with performance nutritionist, Jill Lane.
While most Americans are over-fed and undernourished, we’re seeing a chronic problem with athletes of all levels being both underfed and undernourished…and it’s wreaking havoc on health, performance, and longevity.
Today I’m catching up with Jill Lane, the Founder of Fueling Champions and an expert performance nutrition consultant with more than two decades of experience consulting, coaching, and teaching functional nutrition and exercise physiology. She has dedicated her career to helping pro athletes, sports families, sports teams and high achievers attain max strength, quick recovery, heightened energy, sharp focus, and optimal body fat for peak performance through her unique 3-step approach.
In this conversation, we talk about Jill’s functional medicine approach to performance nutrition and some of the most common issues plaguing both professional and student-athletes when it comes to fueling their body appropriately. We talk about Relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S), the biggest areas of opportunity for improving athletic performance, recommended protein sources, the role of peri-workout nutrition, and so much more.
